Quality Manager

POSITION TITLE: Quality Manager

REPORTS TO: President

SUPERVISES: All Quality Personnel

POSITON SUMMARY: Plans, coordinates, and directs quality control program designed to ensure continuous production of products consistent with established standards. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Develops and analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished product. • Formulates and maintains quality control objectives and coordinates objectives with production procedures in cooperation with other plant managers to maximize product reliability and minimize costs. • Directs workers engaged in inspections and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products. • Plan, promotes and organizes training activities related to product quality and reliability. • Investigates and adjusts customer complaints regarding quality. • Maintains ISO documentation and coordinates Audits

MARGINAL/LESS ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Training and Experience: Between 4 and 10 years of trade school, vocational education, work experience or apprenticeship. Physical Demands: The employee is required to: n stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor. n exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or n exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Licenses Required: None. Visual Acuity: Near acuity and accommodation are required for reading machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts. Hearing Ability: Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action. Working Conditions: Normally works in an office environment. Occasionally, the employee is subject to: n high noise levels from operating machines n physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts n breathing fumes, dust and mist The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.

1. Application of statistics to problem solving

2. Develop process maps for current processes and development improvements for efficiency gains and defect reduction

3. Assist in development of common data documentation and defect resolution system

4. Work with product design engineers to establish quality plans for new products and product improvements

5. Support development and deployment of accelerated testing techniques for product development

6. Work with Field service and customer care for rapid resolution of field problems

7. Analyze field failures to establish trends determine root cause of failure and corrective action

8. Work with suppliers in problem resolution

9. Adaptability and flexibility to work in a dynamic environment

Qualifications Include:


1.  BS Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

2. Strong statistical training and demonstrated application

3. Knowledge and expertise in standard Microsoft applications

4. Excellent organizational and communication skills

5. High level of analytical ability with complex problems

6. Excellent interpersonal skills including leading and working in a cross-functional team environment

7. Experience with APQP activity (control plans, PFMEAs, gage studies, capability studies)


1. ISO 9000 and/or AAR M-1003 quality system implementation and/or auditing

2. ASQ Certified Quality Engineer

3. Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certified

4. Lean manufacturing experience

Responsibilities – External:

Ensure the integrity of FM Approved products through performing surveillance audits throughout the FM Approvals customer base.

Manage, cultivate and maintain partnerships with a variety of FM Approved product manufacturers.

Independently examine the procedures, processes, systems and records for conformity requirements.

Review Approval markings, critical drawings, documentation control, quality procedures and inspection, equipment calibration and product validation.

Effectively perform audits and capably evaluate audit/test results, weighing the relevancy, accuracy and perspective of conclusions against the accumulated audit/test evidence.

Accurately report on a wide variety of witness testing through effectively communicating audit results, both verbally and in written reports and documentation.

Significant travel required.

This role is responsible for servicing clients in the IL, IA and WI region.

Qualifications – External:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required.

Minimum of five years experience related to audits, process control or quality assurance.

Knowledgeable of industry test standards, Quality Management Systems, third- party product certification, and ISO9001 certification is a strong benefit.

Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

Self directed, able to work independently, excellent time management skills.
