Rich Derks, Managing Partner – Innovation 360, MBA, Speaker, Author

24f9db4Rich is Managing Partner of Innovation360, headquartered in the Chicago area. Innovation360 provides innovation training and full-service new product development for organizations. Over his 25-year career, Derks has developed and launched hundreds of new products for the consumer, medical, and industrial markets. Before starting Innovation360, Derks was president of Medline’s Durable Medical Equipment Division, where he had global responsibility for all new product development, manufacturing, and marketing for a wide variety of medical equipment. Derks holds a MBA-Marketing and a BS-Industrial & Systems Engineering, both from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is also CPIM certified through APICS. Derks holds multiple patents, and is a frequent speaker at national conferences, Stanford University, MIT, Northwestern, and the University of Wisconsin. He is also an instructor with the Illinois Institute of Technology where he team teaches a class on business innovation. Rich has published numerous articles on creativity and innovation, and is a past columnist for Product and Process Innovation.

Quality Technician

Quality Technician – Barrington, IL

Perform daily inspections of precision product per procedures.  Maintain quality and safety standards, keeping records and maintaining equipment and supplies.

Essential Functions:


          Conduct daily inspections of turned production for conformance to blue print specifications.

          Performs detailed visual inspections and measures dimensions of products using various instruments such as comparators, calipers, gauges and micrometers.

          Notifies supervisor and/or shop foremen when inspection results exceeds acceptable limits and does not meet specifications.

          Record and report all inspection results in QC Database.

          Complete Product ID lot ticket and route product accordingly.

          Provide support for sorting or packaging product when needed.





          Previous quality control experience with precision component parts

          Ability to read and understand blueprints and GD&T

          Ability to read precision gauges and visual accuracy.

          Possess strong mathematical abilities, verbal/written communication and problem solving skills

          Proficiency with inspection equipment and instruments.


Physical Requirements:


          Requires visual acuity (corrected) to read directions and prints and to inspect precision machined parts closely to ensure that they meet specifications.

          Manual dexterity sufficient to handle delicate parts and operate gauges and inspection equipment.

          Physical ability to work requiring continuous sitting with frequent walking, bending, twisting and lifting the entire shift.

          Physical strength to lift and carry 30lbs. frequently throughout the day.

QC Lead

QC Lead – $18+/Hr per exp.; this position is located in Spring Grove, IL.

This position oversees the evaluation of a finished product for quality and consistency and assists in the development of quality control standards for a manufacturer in the plastics industry.
2+ years QC exp/QC leadership exp within a mfg environment, preferably plastics.
ISO 9001-2008 experience required – knowledge of certification and reporting processes is required.
Ability to read and understand product design blueprints/mechanical prints.
Perform PPAP, 1st article inspection, and Certificate of Compliance reports.
Hands-on functions require the ability to use calipers, micrometers and other gauges.
