We encourage all Chicago Section members to become familiar with the Section’s Recognition & Awards process. A process description documents how to offer candidate nominations and the approval process.

The Joe Lisy Award

Each year the Chicago Section honors one of its members for outstanding service and dedication to the Section. The award was created in 1959 in memory of the late Joseph J. Lisy.

Joe Lisy was a Chicago Section member whose contributions to Section activities were so varied and vital that the entire organizational structure of the Section was heavily dependent on his efforts, but the interesting thing about Joe was his modesty. He preferred to remain in the background and always managed to transfer the praise he deserved to someone else. He took charge of all of the dinner details and left the other officers free to concentrate on the seemingly more important work, and nobody paid him much attention.

Joe Lisy passed away, and then his efforts, contributions, and influence were missed. So, as a tribute to Joe’s memory, The Joe Lisy Award was created to honor those who demonstrate the sort of devotion, dedication, service, and humility for which Joe Lisy is remembered.
