Quality Manager

Title: Quality Manager
Classification: Non-Exempt
Reports To: President

Manages and coordinates the daily Quality Assurance activities, documents and related operations of American Pinball Inc. (API). Responsible for day to day monitoring and inspection activities. Supervises the QA Inspector(s), is responsible for monitoring the tool calibration system, determining root cause for reported internal and external nonconformities, determines acceptance or denial of warranty claims, communicates decisions to the customer. Develops and manages required policies, procedures and audit controls. Establishes and maintains Quality Management Processes and Procedures, Work Instructions, Forms, Documents and Records. Oversees the day to day inspections, documentation, investigation and analysis of reported nonconformities.
Monitors compliance with 5S performance to promote a safe working environment. Promotes the execution of the procedures and work instructions in the Quality Management System. Attends Design Review and Management Review meetings. Manages the daily operations of the quality assurance staff, enforces the Policies and Procedures listed in the Quality Management Systems manual that impact Manufacturing, Production, Inspection and Testing.

Plant QA Inspectors and Testing Technicians (if any).

Duties and responsibilities:
• Responsible for the oversight of the Process Audits and any resulting corrective actions.
• Responsible Internal and External Corrective and Preventive Action reporting.
• Responsible for performing Root Cause Analysis activities and meetings.
• Responsible for meeting and coordinating with external Quality System auditors.
• Vice-Chairs safety committee. Monitors staff safety and on-the-job injuries. Reviews and audits OSHA Log.
• Continuously improves performance by fostering a well-trained, equipped and motivated staff.
• Maintains quality of service by enforcing quality and customer service standards.
• Maintains staff performance by conducting regular performance reviews.
• Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations and conducting staff meetings as required.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed and participating in Quality Management System team meetings, as required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position, and core hours of work are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. One, half hour lunch break and two ten-minute rest breaks will be provided.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to see, talk and hear. The use of hands and fingers to handle and/or feel and the ability to reach with hands and arms, is required. Sitting, standing and walking, for long periods of time up to nine (9) hours per day. Must wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) including a back-brace belt, as required. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly throughout the work day without assistance. Must be able to move 250 lb. games, on a cart, as needed. Must be able to safely operate a pallet jack moving loads up to 1500 lbs.

Quality Inspector – Stamping Manufacturing

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Quality Inspector to join our team that is passionate about excellence in quality and customer satisfaction.

Under the supervision of the Quality Manager, the Quality Inspector performs the inspection of product star-up approvals, Tool/Die set-ups, In-Process measurements and testing to ensure products meet quality standards before they reach the customer.

Essential Functions of the Position
• Read and interpret blueprints, control plans and engineering specifications.
• Inspect products according to control plan requirements using various precision gauges.
• Maintain quality records on product inspected.
• Maintain statistical process data as required by the customer
• Work closely with and train/re-train shop floor personnel
• Identify and report product non-conformances
• Perform other duties as directed.

• Minimum 5 years’ experience as an inspector, preferred stamping manufacturing
• Associate degree or above
• Prior exposure to ISO19001, TS16949, ISO14001 Quality Systems
• Experience using OGP or CMM
• Proficient with micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, optical comparator, etc.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications (blueprint reading skills)
• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T)
• Strong knowledge of mathematical operations (e.g. measure conversions)
• Knowledge and understanding basic quality terms, definitions and concepts
• Must understand types of measurement, measurement terminology
• Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
• Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office – Excel & Word)

Quality Engineer


Our client is over 100 years old and they employ approximately 1,200 employees in North America with sales in excess of $800mm dollars. In the United States, they employ 400 people at 5 production facilities. The position is located at a production facility in the southwest suburbs of Chicago and has 150,000 square feet of manufacturing space. It is a nonunion operation and employs 55 people on a two-shift operation

This person needs to be able to run projects, work independently, be proactive, and able to work effectively with customers. This person would be part of a management team that is implementing lean and enhancing processes, procedures and systems.

Primary Accountabilities:

• Establish programs, policies and procedures to evaluate precision, accuracy and capability of processes, products, production equipment and testing, measurement, and analytical equipment and facilities. • Support the development and implementation of the corrective and preventive action systems.
• Driving the acceptance and adoption of change into an organization • Marshaling and motivating individuals without a direct reporting relationship. • Implementing structured analysis process into complex on-demand problem solving.

Primary Duties:

• Implementation of quality planning (APQP and initial sampling)

• Supplier coordination- PPAP approval, conduct audits, issue reclamations, issue charge backs, etc.

• Examination of laboratory and test reports and initiation of appropriate measures

• Preparation, supervision, and closure of customer audits

• Implementation and monitoring of remedial measures and processes

• Read and interpret engineering drawing, standards, and specifications

• Specification of the required inspection documents for auditors and measurement engineers

• Customer and supplier visits

• Participation in and managing of quality and customer projects

• Implementation of internal audits

• Support and assistance in the introduction or change of processes

• Tool, process, and gauge buy offs

• PPAP submission to customers

• Participation in FMEA, Control Plans, Process Flows, and other process documentation


• Possess a Bachelor’s degree • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with quality/continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment. • A demonstrated experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma is essential. • Working knowledge of ISO 9002 and TS 16949 is required. • Experience with Steel, Aluminum or Stainless steel is highly preferred.

The Quality Director is responsible for deployment of quality-related initiatives, processes, and practices. Summary: Can perform all the job duties within the department related to continuous improvement and maintaining the Quality Management System.  A Quality Associate examines the materials, procedures, and processes involved in the production of a corrugated product using the available data and resources and enforcing quality standards; testing materials and product.

Maintain and conduct in-process product inspections, studies manufacturing methods; monitors testing methods and procedures.

Maintain standards for the disposition of finished product by evaluating tests, methods, and procedures.
