QA Manager, National Cycle, Maywood, IL

QA Manager (Chicago) needed to lead an exciting career with National Cycle – a global, industry leading, state-of-the-art, power sports manufacturer and supplier of: polycarbonate windshields, machined brackets and accessories for motorcycles, scooters, ATVs, UTVs, etc.  Soon to be adding: deep drawn motorcycle gas tanks, side covers and fenders.

This role will lead total quality programs, policies, and initiatives.

Responsible for identifying, analyzing and developing improvements in productivity, quality, client relationships, and customer service.

Responsible for planning total quality policies, programs, and initiatives.

Oversees development of new testing tools, methods and systems to ensure products and services meet quality standards.  A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Responsible for the design and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure that quality standards are met during production. Oversees testing of processes and products.

We are needing to grow from our ISO 9001 certification and into TS 14969, and ISO 14000.

Oversees the evaluation of a finished product for quality and reliability.

Requires a bachelor’s degree with 6 + years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. Will lead and direct the work of others (1 experienced Technician to start).

Needing: CMM operational skills with reporting for PPAP and APQP start-ups.

Some manufacturing engineering experience is preferred.

General Summary: Inspect component parts and completed product for conformance to
process controls using visual inspection and various measuring tools of advanced
complexity

Essential Functions:
• Perform final and incoming inspections
• Assist in evaluation of non-conforming components
• Perform internal process audits as required, report all findings
• Position has the authority to “shut down” non-conforming processes after notifying Supervisor
• Analyze and report on materials, processes and products
• Communicate drawing discrepancies to Engineering
• Participate in customer inspections as needed
• Assist team members in preparing and entering NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports)
• Write Customer Improvement Initiative (CII) for audits and assist employees who wish to report a
problem requiring corrective action for repetitive problems
• Report violations of ISO standard to the Quality Manager
• Participate in prototype review process for all newly developed products as needed
• Assist in the dimensional analysis of components to help identify potential quality issues
• Responsible (along with team members from product engineering, manufacturing engineering and
production) for the creation/implementation of process control charts for all critical processes
Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Communicates to Account Managers about the feasibility of a service according to availability.
  • Estimates man-days to assign for a service job. Provides this information to Account Managers for quotation purposes.
  • Verifies factory measuring / testing capabilities to ensure that product inspection / test can be performed.
  • Ensures that measuring equipment are under valid calibration at the time of inspection.
  • Develops Inspection Checklists.
  • Prepares work for jobs and makes sure that the inspector and/or auditor understands and has all technical documents needed to perform the service.
  • Keeps frequent communication with inspectors on site to make sure of the implementation of inspection at factory side.
  • Reviews inspection reports for accuracy and completeness, and assures that all input data to be viewed by the client is complete, not ambiguous, and meets the clients’ needs to make prompt decisions.
  • Monitors on site quality performance of inspectors and auditors according to defined schedule.
  • Investigates the root cause of quality issues, and implements defined corrective actions.

 Qualifications: 

  • Minimum Bachelors Degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering discipline that is closely related.
  • Technically proficient in Microsoft Office – Desire experience in one or more statistical programs utilized by the company – Experience w/ Photoshop is preferable.
  • Possesses demonstrated experience in some of the following areas such as plastic injection molding, electrical and pneumatic hand tools, Bicycles and exercise equipment, electrical and electronic products and various consumer products.
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical documents related to industries listed above
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience of international standards applied to evaluate product conformity: UL, ISO, CSA, CE, etc.
  • Good command in theory and practice of sampling plans, particularly ANSI Z1.4.
  • Organized, good verbal and written communication skills, proven leadership and ability to work well with others, ability to work independently, systematic problem solver, etc.

Manufacturing and Supply Chain Quality Engineer, Gogo Inc., Broomfield, Colorado

Position at Gogo Business Aviation

The Gogo Business Aviation Manufacturing & Supply Chain Quality Engineer is part of the Quality team working cohesively with multiple cross functional internal departments, including Production, Supply Chain, and Engineering, as well as with external suppliers.  In this hands-on position, you will have a foundation in printed circuit board assembly methods, troubleshooting, and process optimization, as well as practical experience in sheet metal fabrication, and cable harness assembly.  This technical background will enable you to be successful in handling multiple projects from new product development materials quality to sustaining materials quality.  This role supports all supplier management and quality key initiatives and implementation of a focused continual improvement strategy for areas of responsibility.  The role is key in ensuring that outsourced materials and sub-assemblies meet the defined specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.  We are looking for a self-starter that will work well under limited supervision, someone who thrives in a collaborative culture with a diverse group of people, and someone who is passionate about quality!

How will you make a difference?

  • Gathers and translates engineering defined product requirements into manufacturing methods and processes for suppliers.  Assures products produced by suppliers conform to established requirements and standards through appropriate vendor audit, inspection, and test activities.
  • Supports the Gogo Supply Chain Team in evaluating supplier quality process and performance capabilities in alignment with Gogo requirements and compliance to requirements defined in AS9100, ensuring that suppliers have the necessary information and facilities to consistently deliver products meeting design requirements on time to Gogo.  As needed, the candidate will assist with conducting First Article Inspections and/or Conformity Inspections.
  • Resolves manufacturing and quality issues by facilitating interaction between suppliers and various internal departments and identifying and applying solutions from acquired technical expertise as a result of previous work history as a manufacturing and/or process development engineer in printed circuit board assembly, sheet metal fabrication, and/or cable harness assembly.
  • Maintains supplier monthly performance key performance indicators (KPIs); analyzes and reviews trending data; and actively engages suppliers in identification of true root cause(s) and corrective action(s).

Qualifications

  •  Bachelor of Science or higher degree in mechanical and/or electrical engineering.
  • 7 – 10 years’ work experience directly responsible for process, product, or manufacturing quality engineering.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%.  Domestic and international.

Required Skills, Experience and Talents

  • Has basic practical experience with good manufacturing practice (GMP) and methods in mechanical and electronic manufacturing environments.  Must have effective demonstration of hands on experience in engineering design, manufacturing, and process capability analysis, including the ability to effectively evaluate, understand, and communicate impacts due to changes in process, engineering requirements, and supplier limitations.  This includes demonstrated experience with manufacturing methods and practices related to Surface Mount Technology (SMT), related supporting functions in accordance with IPC-A-610, manufacturing methods and practices related to machining, sheet metal fabrication, and special process welding and finishing.
  • Experience working in a company that has implemented and maintains a certified ISO 9001 and / or AS9100 Quality Management System.  Must possess a basic understanding of the standards and be able to apply them on a practical level and be able to identify and interpret effective implementation at each supplier, as applicable.
  • Practical knowledge and ability to interpret geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).  Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings to ANSI Y 14.5.  Proficient with geometry and trigonometry (machine shop math).
  • Ability to work and communicate collaboratively, effectively, and expressively with all cross functional departments to develop a team atmosphere and arrive at a mutually beneficial agreed path forward for all issues.
  • Strong attention to detail, follow through, and task organizational skills with focus to deliver against deadlines.
  • Self-driven and enthusiastic to achieve defined goals and metrics, requiring minimal supervision.
